It is no more just about selling products. The focus has shifted to experience.
Yes, you sell the experience to your users now. And, this is achieved by creating advanced UI/UX.
We have seen remarkable key trends in the UI/UX designs in 2016 and one of our favorites is Pokémon Go, an augmented reality game which became famous overnight.
1. Time saving designs especially Chatbots: We all like linear designs because one action can be taken at a time. No confusion! However, with advancements in the UI/UX designs and integration with AI, we have started enjoying conversational interface. Chatbots! Yes, they are the new buzzwords in the tech town. They are automated and serve your customers right where they are. Customer service interactions will become automated with chatbots in the near future.
2. Focus on experience based metrics: Gone are the days when business analyzed engagement metrics. The focus has shifted to experience-based metrics to track the contribution in user's life. Snapchat Spectacles is a great example. An accessory which allows you to record video which syncs with your phone automatically. It changed the way people use Snapchat. But, what are companies doing for that? Of course, research on their buyer persona and trying to solve problems by predicting their behavior. In 2017 we expect businesses and design teams hiring a bunch of psychologists, anthropologists and researchers etc. to design these experiences.
3. Voice recognition and other interactive platforms especially in relation to IoT – We have already seen “Amazon Echo”. What do we mean? Buttons are obsolete. We are expecting voice commands to become the mainstream model of interaction mainly in IoT devices and AR/VR. It is also time that designers understand the new navigations systems like Air Tap and Gaze used in Microsoft HoloLens as of now. It does not end here. In wearable technology like smartwatches, appropriate use of Force touch or 3D touch will gain importance. After all, it decrease confusion and clutter on the screens.
4. Visuals
a. Minimalism: Simple photos, videos, icons will be used more than long form writing. Designers will focus on reducing the number of clicks or touches required to perform a task
b. Responsiveness: Google’s has stated that, 85% of all pages in the mobile search results now meet this criteria and hence, they will be removing the mobile-friendly label. Responsiveness on multiple screen sizes is a given!
c. Card based UI’s: Pinterest, a classic example! It breaks the content into smaller pieces and makes it easier to navigate. The cards work well on both mobile, tablet and desktop.
d. Parallax scrolling: It is a technique which allows you to move the background as well as the foreground in varied speed. What's awesome about it? It gives a 3D effect to the whole experience. Also, it works well with text, images and video.

e. Advance in animation: Designers are turning to animation to engage their users and increase the usability. With advancements in CSS3, HTML5, and jQuery, it is possible to create high end animations. This includes a range of smaller distractions like page loading, hover animations, navigation cues and full-screen visuals etc.
In 2017 what matters is the experience promised by your brand. It is not only about designs, but solving a problem your users might be facing. Let’s stop and think again. How can our UI/UX enhance the experience without a tedious interface?
